TKDDS is now offering Propolis!
Did you know that honey isn’t the only thing bees make? Bees also produce the compound propolis which is made from the sap on needle-leaved trees or evergreens. When this sap is combined with beeswax, it creates a sticky, greenish-brown product which is used as a coating to build and protect the hive. The composition of propolis varies depending upon the location of the bees and what types of trees and flowers they have access to. Researchers have identified more than 300 healing compounds in propolis, with the majority of them being polyphenols- antioxidants which fight disease and repair cellular damage. Propolis has antibacterial, antiviral, antifungal, and anti-inflammatory properties. A few oral uses of propolis include:
- Tooth sensitivity
- Reduction of oral mucositis as a result of chemotherapy
- Gingival inflammation
- Antiviral – for early states of herpes simplex
- Recurrent mouth ulcers
- Anti-cariogenic – slows the process of cavities
- Antifungal – Aids in healing Candida
- Wound healing
